Background: This semester, we have been using conversation as a metaphor to better understand how scholars ask questions that allow them to inquire into important social issues and weave together their research into a compelling argument. Moreover, we have been able to evaluate how Tim Wise and D. Watkins enter into conversations about racial inequity and put a spotlight on institutionalized discrimination in 21st Century America. For the research paper, enter a conversation that genuinely interests you and recommend a solution to an issue that is undermining social justice for specific populations of Americans. Your Task: Frame a question that allows you to enter into a conversation about how an important issue related to social justice should be solved. You may cite from Colorblind and The Beast Side in your paper, but it is not a requirement. You must, however, research other credible sources that develop and support your argument for a proposed solution. Student Learning Outcome: Compose a thesis-driven paper that synthesizes independent research in order to inform an audience about an issue and recommend a solution to the specific social injustice. Essay Requirements: Introduction that establishes that topic and purpose of your paper and flows logically into your thesis statement. Argumentative thesis statement which states a proposed solution to an important social issue of your choice. 8 or more body paragraphs that have specific points, relevant information, and thoughtful explanations. Conclusion which summarizes your thesis and supporting points and provides closure to your argument. Clear and complete sentences that have been proofread for common errors. MLA formatted first page, in-text citations, and works cited page. Research that includes a minimum of 7 credible sources (listed on works cited page). Minimum 2000 words.
