Choose a piece or musician that we have studied in class and a piece or musician of any genre of music that is close to you and compare the two.

For your final project you will turn in either a 7-minute podcast or a 10- to 15-slide Powerpoint on a topic of your choice about Western music. Both must have an accompanying script of about 500 to 1000 words in length plus bibliography indicating the sources you used. The slides should have links to external sources (Naxos, youtube etc.) for the audio/visual clips. Do not embed the audio-visual clips or the file might become too heavy to upload.Choose a piece or musician that we have studied in class and a piece or musician of any genre of music that is close to you and compare the two. For example, Lieder and singer song writers (analogies and differences), Beethoven’s struggle and overcoming disability (music and dis/abilities); comparable dramatic situations in opera and film or musical; gender representation and identity.Script :The script, 500 to 1000 words in length, needs to be written in an elegant and clear academic style. Quote your sources using the system of quotation you prefer. Here are some examples, if you need themLinks to an external site.. For the pieces studied in class use ONLY: Naxos or other resources accessible from the music library website, or from the UC Davis library. For the music of your choice, you can have more freedom for the choice of sources, but always quote your sources. Provide full information about the sources either in footnotes or in a bibliography. If you use parenthetical abbreviated quotations (for example, Naxos), you need a bibliography with more complete information about the sources (for example: Naxos.com, Dictionary of Music, “Beethoven”).For the images (in the case of the Powerpoint slides) include the sources (web based or printed) in the bibliography or in the slide itself. Mind, though, that aesthetics is important for the slides in the powerpoint presentation. Also, there are additional instructions in the week8 pdf file. Our TA wants us to analyze the music using the soundscapes model(sound, significance and setting) in week 5 pdf.Musicians from our class include Bach, Beethoven, Tartini, Mozart, Rossini, Schubert and Giuseppe Verdi.
