Using the lens that is your default, analyze the ethics of the situation as outlined Ethical Analysis Assignment In March 2018, it was revealed that Facebook policies enabled user data to be given to Cambridge Analytica through a third party, Aleksandr Kogan. While there are arguments that this data was used to influence political campaigns in the UK and the US, the point of this exercise is not about how the data was used. The purpose of this exercise is to examine the ethics of allowing personal data to be sold to a third party which could be used for purposes that the Facebook users did not approve. Legally, Facebook had the right to sell the data given the agreement people make when they open an account. This paper, however, is not about the legality of selling the data, but the ethics of selling the data. Remember, just because we can legally do something doesn’t mean we should. I am providing a handful of articles discussing data privacy, specifically around the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica issue. These articles include mostly centrist sources, but also include some that lean left (The Washington Post) and some that lean right (The National Review). All sources provided here have a reputation for good journalism. Your goal is to analyze the articles, and any other research you wish to do using credible sources, to assess the ethics of selling people’s personal information gathered from social media sites. 1. Analyze the ethical dilemma noted above relative to two of the four ethical lenses from the lens inventory. Given your results from the Ethical Lens Inventory, you will analyze using your default lens, and the exact opposite lens. If your default lens was Rights & Responsibility, the opposite lens would be the Reputation lens, and vice versa. If your default lens was Results, the Relationship lens is the opposite, and vice versa. Some of you may be in the middle. If so, you should choose any two opposing lenses (analyze either R&R vs Reputation, OR Relationship vs Results). If you are on the border between two lenses (e.g., border between R&R and Results), choose the one with which you most closely align, and then choose its opposite as noted above. B. Using the lens that is your default, analyze the ethics of the situation as outlined above.** ., show how you have considered the facts through some basic research. Include AT LEAST 3 citations from your sources throughout the paper. Include, also, a “works cited” page at the end of your paper. Refer to articles provided for you, but feel free to do additional outside research 2. Assess any struggles you encountered setting aside your default ethical lens to assess this dilemma through a differing perspective. Did you struggle with the idea that there are multiple ways to view an ethical dilemma? What was the hardest thing for you to do in this assignment? What was the easiest? 3. Paper should be typed, double-spaced, with paragraphs and headings, and grammar/spell checked. Use APA (American Psychological Association) style for the paper, including all citations, as well as reference pages. For information on how to format your paper in APA style, you may use the APA style guide, or refer to Purdue University OWL guidelines when writing a paper in this style.
