Notes on what is required in the MCA assessment The Media Celebrity Analysis will be your answer to some (you will need carefully to think about the issues that appear key to you regarding the celebrity you have chosen to research and give them more attention) of the key questions the module has raised with regard to (your chosen, non-film star) media celebrity (they might be well-known, a national treasure, a name, famous – not necessarily a celebrity by various authors strict definitions (see handout for week 1). These might include (it is for students to decide, and justify those decisions, what range of these topics to explore): – in what ways they have a distinctive public subjectivity (students must address this consideration see learning outcome three, module booklet; remember this is P. David Marshalls notion we investigated it in week 2 and have discussed it often since) – how images of them manifest key aspects of this public subjectivity and provide anchor points for audience emotional connection to them; – how they are accessed via social media (as well as other media where these have been central to their initial well-knownness; television, radio, interviews, magazine spreads; – the distinctiveness of audience/fan relationships to this celebrity and; be sure to explain in your introduction how and why you made the choices you did to focus on specific aspects of your media celebritys public subjectivity.
