Proposal: The Primary Need of Teamwork in Health Care
The selected topic is Teamwork in Healthcare because it is essential in any organization. Teamwork provides quality to its consumers, which in health care are patients and family members. I believe that without the teamwork of physicians, nurses, and administrators, the delivery of healthcare would fall dramatically. Each healthcare professional incorporates their knowledge for the betterment of the people we serve. It is vital to maintain this partnership with trust and communication.

Original Case Study (75% of course grade)
This analysis will be an original case study created by you, on topic of your choice, approved by the instructor. The objective of this assignment is to become familiar with a subset of management research of your choosing, and apply that research in order to develop solutions to a practical problem. This assignment requires students to use Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to create, analyze, assess, and evaluate case studies, as well as demonstrate writing competencies. For this assignment, you are encouraged to think about a topic that you are passionate about. Here is a link to Dr. Buchbinders blog with tips on selecting and writing good cases studies http://blogs.jblearning.com/health/2012/09/04/this-is-your-brain-on-fiction-why-teaching-with-case-studies-works/. Another way to select a topic is to review the weekly Course Objectives column of the Course Schedule (below) and the required textbook chapter titles.
For the approved topic, students will write an 8-10-page analysis (double-spaced, one-inch margins, excluding APA formatted references and a cover page), researching their approved topic and applying that research to an original case study, written by the student (all cases must be fictional!). The steps for this assignment mirror the steps for the Mini Case from Module 2.
1. Provide a brief background of the case as it relates to your topic. (Expected length: about a page).
2. Citing only peer reviewed articles (do NOT cite books), propose to alternate (different) theories/conceptual frameworks that have been shown to promote/develop solutions to the topic you identified. Briefly explain each theory/framework supported by at least 3 peer reviewed articles PER theory/framework (this is where you show off that you understand the research). (Expected length: 3+ pages PER theory/framework).
3. Briefly discuss who the appropriate person in the case is to address the problem, and why. Describe how this role could begin to implement each of the two theories from your response to #2, above, to help develop solutions to the problem in the case. Next, discuss the pros and cons of each of these two solutions and compare/contrast them. Lastly, discuss which solution you would ultimately recommend for implementation and defend your rationale. (Expected length: 1-2+ pages total)
4. Describe how and when you will know that you have fixed the major problem – select a quantifiable outcome from research to use as your metric and cite that research. Then, provide a baseline, target and timeframe for your metric (make up these numbers). (Expected length: 1 paragraph).
Your reference list for this assignment should present a minimum of 7 peer reviewed articles focused on your approved topic.
