HM 306 – Your Future Career in Senior Living Assignment You have learned a lot about senior living and CCRCs. Most have visited at least two CCRCs, and heard from leaders in the field representing multiple academic disciplines, operational roles, functional specialties and departments, and perspectives. I hope all this has led you to think about your own fit in the field. This assignment gives you a chance to envision your perfect senior living job and how you will get there. I recognize that many of you are not thinking about CCRCs as a career path, at least in the short term. For the purpose of this assignment, humor me and imagine that you are considering Senior Living. To complete the assignment, first do a web search of Senior Living job sites, companies, and communities (Senior Living Jobs). Identify a specific currently available senior living job or position in which you would potentially be interested, either at graduation or in the future. (Print the job posting to submit with your assignment.) Examples include Executive Director, Director of Dining Services or Environmental Services or Marketing or Finance or Human Resources, or Health Care Administrator, among others. You might be immediately eligible for a management trainee or assistant manager or administrator in training position. After gaining experience in the field you could be eligible for department head positions at the community level. In the long term you might also be interested in corporate level or consulting roles. Any of these are fair game for this assignment. Based on the job you have identified, submit a 400-600 word (maximum) paper in which you explain and discuss: 1. Why you are interested in this specific position and how it fits with your professional goals; (a) What kind of work will you do each day? (b) How does it fit in your ideal career path? (Does a position such as this provide for career growth opportunities? What does it prepare you to do? Does it offer long term stability? Long term financial rewards?) 2. How does this job fit with your goals for your personal and outside of work life? Rewards? Work life balance? 3. What sort of (1) education, (2) experience, and (3) certification (if any) are required or preferred for the job you have chosen? What additional education or experience do you need to acquire in order to be qualified? 4. Is this position with a for-profit or not-for-profit/faith based organization? Community level or corporate level? Why did you choose this? 5. What are your geographic preferences and imitations? Will this job allow you to live where you want? Are you prepared to relocate in order to advance in your career? 6. How will a hospitality background and orientation affect your marketability for this job?
