Write a short poem or prose piece from the perspective of Richard Cory (perhaps you might think of it as a suicide note). You should write it as if you ARE Richard Cory.

Answer each of the questions below. You will upload your answers to Canvas as you usually do, but they will automatically be submitted to Turn It In. Your responses should be 100% original. You should use outside sources to give you a better understanding of the poems. But you should not copy and paste (or copy closely) any of that material into your responses. Be sure to cite any material that you quote or paraphrase from a source. 1. Write a short poem or prose piece from the perspective of Richard Cory (perhaps you might think of it as a suicide note). You should write it as if you ARE Richard Cory. Here are some things to consider as you are crafting your letter or poem: What kinds of things might he say or notice about the “down town” he walks through or the people he encounters? What does he feel and think? Why does he do what he does? You should write approximately 1/2 page double spaced. (30 points) 2. Imagine that you are Aphra Behn, writing about this same topic that is expressed in “On Her Loving Two Equally” today in 2018. This time, however, you are writing to a relationship blogger asking for advice on how to handle this situation. Rewrite the poem as prose, as if you are seeking advice from a relationship coach or professional. Reflect on our group exercise in class last week to inform your understanding of the meaning of the poem. Your response should be approximately 1/2 page double spaced. (30 points) 3. Conduct some research to learn about Spoken Word. Also do a bit more research (in addition to the resources provided in this module) about Slam Poetry in general and Stacey Waite in particular. What is the history of this art form, and what are its unique characteristics? Then use the information you have discovered to explain how “The Man I Am at the DMV” is characteristic of this genre of poetry. Give specific examples from the poem and her performance of it. Your response should be approximately 1/2 page double spaced. Remember to cite any sources that you consult. (30 points) 4. With which of the 3 poems in this module can you best identify? Why? Write a fully developed paragraph in response, with at least one specific reference from the poem that you choose. (10 points)
