Write a paper that examines commonalities between Appalachian stereotypes and stereotypes of other groups that are based on geography/location. Your paper should focus on the specific content of images, media, or other visual representations. Each paper should be framed in terms of understanding stereotypes as discussed in HMR. Comparisons, in turn, should be based on similar strategies for example-driven analysis. In other words, papers must: build from evidence, rather than state general ideas or themes of stereotyping; indicate whether the stereotype is intended as negative or positive; discuss how the circulation of the stereotype advances another purpose or goal, e.g. advertising products; balance these representations with additional evidence that calls into question the validity of that stereotype, e.g. census data, news reports, etc.
