Your task for this piece of coursework is to write a 2000 word business report based on the background information given below. Your focus for this business report assignment must be from the perspective of Psychology and Work. You should draw on the material covered in BH2276 Psychology and Work module. Etha Ltd is a UK based company started by Ethel and Hercules Augustas. The couple were both talented designers and started to design useful but also novelty items for the home, school, college and work. Initially selling their products at craft fairs they attracted the attention of a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, Mo Ben, who loved their designs. They worked with Mo Ben, who had connections in many parts of the world and was able to help them get their products manufactured at a low cost as well as finance their initial start-up costs. They opened their first three shops in London, Birmingham and Manchester. Within 10 years they had a chain of 50 shops in the UK, a warehouse and distribution centre in Birmingham and a design studio and head office in Leamington Spa. In total they employ 350 people. As they have experienced rapid growth the company, which is jointly owned by the three partners, has not really focused on their people management practices. The three partners, who work together well, are innovative and progressive employers. They have a very strong brand for their products which have a characteristic modern and innovative design and their mission is to create beautiful and useful products which also help people have fun. They also want the company to be a great place to work for employees. As a result of a further injection of capital they have plans to expand into Europe by opening a further 50 shops across Europe. However they want to improve many of their people management processes before they do so. You are a Business Psychology Consultant and have conducted an Employee Survey for the company. You have analysed the results and now have to write a business report for the three partners and make some recommendations to help them improve their people management practices. In your report you should explain why and how relevant theories and models from work psychology might improve the employees experiences.
