Chinas Belt and Road initiative is the largest ever infrastructure project in the world. It is expected to span the globe with total investments amounting to well over a trillion dollars. As can be imagined for any project of that size, it has both admirers and detractors. CASE# One of the most controversial projects was the Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka. Please refer to the linked information that provides perspectives from both the sides and ALSO do your own research on this case. Some of the issues regarding development and ownership of the ports that are universal are also reflected in the Hambantota Port. As we learned in the first chapter, a port is (nothing more than) a interphase. On its own it will not attract maritime traffic or freight. I want you to this week study the Hambantota Port and Chinas role in its development/investment and comment on the following issues: Why do you think the project i.e. the port, failed? Can this be an indicator of the faith of other similar port projects being undertaken with Chinas support? Or was the problem essentially that of mismanagement by the Sri Lankan government and port planners/operators? Are there any broader takeaways for us from Port Operations perspective? *Make sure you answer the questions and use APA format for citations. Use academic sources
