First, you need to watch the 4 videos on Jacksonaian Democracy as put out by the Khan Academy. The following link will take you to the first video, and each subsequent video will immediately follow. Khan Academy: Jacksonaian Democracy. (Chapter 9 in your textbook will also be of great help). This will serve as a very basic overview for contextual purposes. Second, you need to read Rhode Islander’s Protest Property Restrictions on Voting, 1834. Third, you need to read Black Philadelphians Defend their Voting Rights, 1838. (Both the sources can be located in the Primary Source Reader, located in your online textbook, The American Yawp, in chapter 9.)After reading these sources, you will use the information learned to answer the following questions, again, in no less than 3 pages, but no more than 4 pages. Your answers should have a clear thesis and conclusion, and they MSUT be written as a Word document in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced, with 1-inch margins. For both the Rhode Island and Black Philadelphians sources, in approximately 1 page per source, you need to answer the following:Who is the author and what is the author’s main argument? What is the basic content of the source and how does the author support their position? What conclusions are drawn by the author and what are the broad implications of the argument? One thing to keep in mind is the geographic location of these two places Where did suffrage get extended, where did it not? Why.Page 3-4 will make up your comparative analysis of the two sources, and you need to answer each of the following questions:How are the two sources similar and how are they different? (Think about each group’s social and class position. Consider the role that race might have played, as well as the emphasis each places on the most cherished idea of equal participation, and, all men being created equal under the law.)In what ways do you see the arguments made in the Rhode Island source of 1834 influencing Black Philadelphians’ argument of 1838?
