Choose one example of a voluntary or forced migration to write about. Your example can be historic or contemporary (for example, late 19th and 20th century Jewish migration to the U.S., contemporary Indian migration to the United Arab Emirates, contemporary Mexican immigration to the U.S., etc.)If it is a voluntary migration, analyze it using one of the theoretical frameworks in chapter 2. Cite examples from the text, and explain what factors provoke(d) the migration, why it continued, etc.?If it is a forced migration, analyze it using the later part of the text, from chapter 10. Cite examples from the text and explain how the movement you have chosen meets the definition of “forced migration.” What situation provoked this forced migration? Has this created a refugee crisis, IDPs, both? What is the status of the persons involved under the international refugee regime? Have they moved to particular areas, requested asylum, etc? What has been the response of the receiving country/countries? Do you believe we have a collective responsibility to help forced migrants? Why or why not?
