What are the authors premises and assumptions (i.e., values, biases, and perspectives)?

Respond to the following questions in an essay. The separate questions are meant to suggest ways to analyze the text. Your response should be a single essay in which these questions are addressed in an integrated fashion; it should not be a series of independent answers or bullet points.

What is the authors argument?
How does the author make it?
What are the authors premises and assumptions (i.e., values, biases, and perspectives)?
Does he make any assumptions that are not expressed?
Are his inferences and conclusions valid?

I uploaded the original paper, named “PAPER” and the document you must analyze, named “FILE 1”

COMMENTS FROM MY PROFESSOR: “Focus only on the argument(s) in the excerpt below and analyze Kennans meaning, argument, and intent. In order to analyze, the paper must first clearly demonstrate and establish that it understands the basic elements of the document under consideration.

As such, good summary–which leads to good analysis–will have four elements. First, it will describe the contents of the document as a whole, but do so in shortened form. Second, it will describe the document in neutral terms without editorializing or adding your opinions. Third, it will be written accurately, but in your own words. Fourth, it will contain between one and three brief quotations (depending upon the size of the document), which capture the essence or basic meaning of the quotation.

When crafting a summary, it is important to present the main point(s) of the document. Make sure to identify and to describe the main arguments in the document. Before analyzing a document, be careful merely to identify or briefly describe the arguments. Do not immediately criticize the arguments. Even if you disagree with an authors arguments, you must demonstrate that you understand what the author wrote. Appropriate summary must occur before analysis, but analysis is still quite necessary.”
