Victorian Literature Research paper
This course has raised social issues that were under close critical scrutiny through the works we have studied. These values sometimes changed throughout the century (such as working conditions for the lower classes, the influence of church doctrine over the life of the individual, sexual mores); sometimes they do not (for example, gender roles, crime, social mobility, and class). You may choose to develop the ideas you addressed in the first assignment, using one or more additional texts (so use the works of at least three authors), and trace how Victorian attitudes seem to have changed or not through the decades of the nineteenth century.
Consider the following in your answer:
Style and tone (e.g. satire, realism, etc.)
Characters
Plot structure
Chronological relationship of the texts and intertextuality
Social, economic and political conditions within which the specific works were produced
Intended audience/readership
Your paper should be between 12 and 15 pages, typed, double-spaced, and edited using MLA style.
Use at least five secondary sources, in addition to the texts you are using.
I will be using 3 different Novels
1st one is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, 2nd one is Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, 3rd one is The woman in White by Wilkie Collins
