The term social media appeared for the first time in 2004. Since then, many definitions have been written. For the most part we are all familiar with the various platforms for our own personal fun use, however, it is key to look at the impact, both positive and negative, of what social media means to companies and organizations. The unique attributes of social media make it a brilliant platform to use in building and maintaining trust with key publics. Its also a great listening tool to better understand what people are talking about and how they feel about a product or issue. Social media is now used extensively for communication, human resources, branding, community relations, customer service, fundraising, marketing, and sales.
Examples of some of the types of social media channels include forums, blogs, microblogs, social networking sites, wikis, music sites, picture sites, video sites and reviews and rating sites.
As a platform, social media provides important communication advantages that allow brands and organizations to:
Engage with customers and stakeholders.
Develop loyalty
Increase transparency
Manage perceptions
Provide real-time feedback and customer service
Respond quickly during a crisis

Read Chapter 9 in its entirety before you start your discussion post assignment.
Using your final project company/organization identify and list all the social media platforms it currently uses and briefly asses each platform. Is it active? Are posts, posted frequently? In your opinion, what could be done differently? If you think a good job is currently being done, briefly explain why. If there is any additional insight you’d like to provide, please feel free. This brief assessment will only help you when it comes to determining what you will improve on or do differently for your final project.
Select five different KPIs you will use for each social media platform that you want to use to measure your company/organization’s engagement for your final project. (Note – If your final project will discuss, for example, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn then your assignment will list five different KPIs for each, for a total of 20 different KPIs.)
Explain each KPI with as much detail as you can find there is no word min/max. I am looking for concise detail that clearly conveys your KPIs and why they are important for each social media platform. You must think outside the box, for this assignment.
