The essay itself should be 6 – 8 pages, not including the Works Cited. The paper should be in Chicago Format. 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with in-text citations (Author, #). This essay functions as a research paper, where you will formulate a thesis based on a topic we covered in the class. You will support your original argument with:
1. The course readings (at least 3)
2. at least 2 archival primary sources (these can be sources we have used in this course)
and/or at least 2 peer-reviewed secondary sources you find on your own.
You must use an academic database, such as JSTOR.ORG to find these sources
So your final essay must cite, in total, at least 5 sources.
“Primary sources helped me better understand the impact and artistry of the Harlem Renaissance [finish this sentence in a way that describes what is gained by reading primary sources]. Reading the poems/songs/fiction of Black artists during me insight on [name three specific aspects. For example, the New Negro ethos, the burgeoning Civil Rights movement, the impact of the Great Migration, how Black folks felt about WWI, etc). This argument is your thesis.
