OBSERVATION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS Answer the following 3 questions in order to record careful observations and impressions about Galatians 4:21-31. Use the template provided for you in the Assignment Instructions folder. 1. Chapter 4 Questions – Looking at the Whole Picture Using Galatians 4:21-31, practice the 3 steps in observing the whole of a passage: A. Read the passage with care. Read through Galatians 4:21-31 at least 5 times in one sitting. B. Record your initial impressions. Reflecting on what you have read, record your general impression of the text. Then write 1215 specific impressions of the passage. C. Record the major facts. With your Bible open before you, begin answering the 4 key questions of who, what, where, and when. Make a list of observations based on these questions, thinking of 510 for each category. 2. Chapter 5 Questions – Looking at the Individual Parts After you have studied the structural outline and principles of structure for Romans 8:3539 and Galatians 5:1626 (see the Additional Information folder), discover the structure of Galatians 4:21-31, make pertinent observations, and compose: A. Write out the verses in a structural outline like the one used in this chapter as an example. B. Mark the principles of structure in the chart provided. You may wish to print out a copy of your structural outline so that you can mark it up with lines, circles, and squares, jotting down notes to yourself. You may then transfer these notations into the provided chart. C. Finally, write a brief outline of the passage like the one provided in the textbook for Galatians 5:1626. 3. Chapter 6 Questions – Looking at the Fine Details Here you will investigate some of the details of Galatians 4:21-31. Using the example of Colossians 1:2429 (Diagram 2 in the Additional Information folder) and the list of details to look for from this chapter, complete the who, what, where, and when of Galatians 4:21-31. You must use the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Holman Illustrated Bible Handbook, and Holman Concise Bible Commentary in order to gather additional information for these answers. Each answer must be more detailed than the ones provided in the Chapter 4 questions.
