‘Re-design the British Constitution

In recent years, many scholars, political commentators, pressure and civil society groups and parts of the general public have argued that the British Constitution is out-dated and needs to be reformed. The aim of this assignment is to contribute to this debate, by proposing if and how, in your view, the British Constitution should be reformed. As such, in this essay you should develop a clear, coherent and critical argument (supported throughout by academic sources) explaining if, why and how you would re-design the British Constitution. The essay should include a critical analysis of the main elements of the British Constitution (e.g. its uncodified form; the structures, institutions and relationships between various bodies government and electoral systems; relationship between the State and citizens; etc.), and offer a proposal for their reform or an explanation for maintaining them as they are. Your claims should be justified and explained in details, drawing on a wide range of relevant academic sources throughout. To achieve this, you should include the following in your essay: Introduction: provide brief background information; explain your argument (e.g. is reform necessary or not? why?) in a very concise manner (you will explain this in details drawing on sources and providing evidence in the essay); and provide an outline of your essay Main body: use a suitable title for this section, and organise into into paragraphs; each paragraph should deal with a specific aspect of the constitution that, in your view, should/should nor be reformed here you need to draw on academic sources to support your claims and you should develop a coherent and critical line of argument. No new points/ideas should be added in the conclusion. List of references/sources: it is imperative that you list of the sources that you have read/used for your essay.
