Psychology of violence hate and prejudice

Choose a current event (no older than 2017) that exhibits prejudice, hate, violence, or all three. This event can be broad and international in scope, such as the Syrian War, or on a smaller interpersonal level, such as specific recent hate crimes or reports of discrimination, a school or other mass shooting, etc.

Describe the event, and then carefully analyze it using concepts we have discussed during the course of the semester. How does the science behind prejudice, hate, and violence help us to better understand real-world acts of human cruelty such as the one you have chosen? Be sure to relate the event to specific course concepts and thoroughly explain how the concepts apply.

At some point in the paper, identify where the event falls in terms of ADLs Hate Pyramid.

At some point in the paper, identify which of Baumeisters Four Roots of Evil best fits this event. (More than one may fit, depending on the event.)

Based on what you have learned in this class, what are your recommendations for handling and/or resolving this event? If the event has already been resolved, how can we prevent something similar from happening again in the future?

If you have any questions or need guidance in choosing and analyzing your topic, please dont hesitate to come to my office hours or contact me via email! I have many examples of papers from previous semesters that you are welcome to come and look through.
