Provide a critical and careful analysis of how your intern site does or does not employ the attribute you select.

This week’s reading, “What Works and Why We Have So Little Of It” (Lisbeth Schorr, Chapter 1) was also assigned during Week 3 – early in the semester. This week you are asked to revisit the the reading with a new eye and perspective – as a much more experienced Intern, knowledgeable about the inner workings of service delivery at your site! At this point you are able to dig much deeper in your analyses. Careful reflection and writing of this Field Note/Reading Response #5 will aid you in successful completion of the upcoming Final Project!

Instructions: Schorr describes her research that defines particular characteristics of organizations that are related to social change. She defines research based broad characteristics that seem to be related to success and refers to these as the “Seven Attributes of Highly Effective Programs” (pg. 5-12). Focus on one or two of these Attributes. (Do not critique all 7!) and complete the following:

1. Provide a critical and careful analysis of how your intern site does or does not employ the attribute you select.

2. Give specific examples or field note data over the course of the semester to support your rationale and opinion.

3. Based on your analysis above, state at least one recommendation for change you might suggest for your site. How would you suggest implementing this change?

Field Note/Reading Response #5 should be single spaced, at least one page

In addition to the Reading Response, please include all field notes (as a separate but attached document) since your last submission. For instance, if you did not submit Field Note/Reading Response #4 include field notes since your Field Note/Reading Response #3 submission. Keep in mind it is best to include as much field note data as possible, even if you are uncertain how it relates to this week’s material!

Attach a single Word Document that includes both Reading Response and Field Notes. Or, you may cut and paste into the submission box below (note: make sure to click and “enable html editor” before you start. Otherwise the formatting is difficult to read.) Also, please be sure that you have spell checked and corrected grammatical and punctuation errors before submitting. (Note: no emailed or late submissions will be accepted for this assignment unless previously arranged with Professor Shellhammer). This assignment is worth 5 points maximum.
