One day you are a FIT student, the next you find yourself transported back to a city, town or farming community somewhere in 17th c. colonial America. What are you doing there? What sort of job do you hold? You could be anything from a slave, to a farmer, to a solider, but make sure your job is appropriate to your location as well as to your age and your sex. Using the assigned readings, write about what happens to you during the few days that you are stuck in the past. You then find yourself shifted to early 19thc America, describing the changed circumstances during this later time period.

Questions to think about while writing your essay include: What exactly is your job? How do you earn a living? What is your daily life like (for example, what do you wear, what do you eat, where do you sleep)? What problems do you face? Is your life exciting or dangerous and why? Does anything historically important happen during your stay? You should finish your essay with a return to the present and a summation of what your learned during your stay in the past.
