Nawal Saadawis novel as an affirmation of her rebelling against the concept of the good woman concept in Egypt

I need to write my Final master’s paper I need an abstract ( half a page) , an introduction ( 2 pages) and a theoretical framework ( 4 pages). ______ I am studying Gender and Development, so gender terms and analysis should be taken into consideration ______ The topic of the paper is about, looking at the term the “good woman” and ” New woman” in Arab countries and arabic literature, and how those two concepts start and how they changed in the 19th and 20th century. And then relating those concepts to the Egyptian writer Nawal Al Sadawi and how she rebelled in her novel ” woman at point zero” against those ideas ( good woman) by writing in a very radical atypical nontraditional way, that sparked a lot of discussions. _____ further explanation: Through reading different literature of Arabic writers, whether it was them writing about the history of the nation, war, colonialism, national identity and so on, we read within the lines about their concepts of what is a “good woman” and how the concept of the new woman has transformed throughout centuries in the Arab world, how the good woman is the traditional woman that is obedient to her national identity her family and her husband. what is needed is to look at the evaluation of the concept of the “good Arab woman ” or sometimes mentioned as new Arab woman concept. How those two concepts have changed from the 19th century to the 20th century ( pre-colonialism during colonialism and postcolonialism) . We can see this transformation through reading and understanding of the literature that was written about the national identities that were imposed on women, and gender roles and how were they placed in the society by their community. It is important to talk in-depth about the transformation of the womens gender narrative/ role from pre-colonialism to colonialism to postcolonialism. And how the concept of the new and good woman changed throughout those three stages in the Arab countries. And how were Arab and other international writers during that period articulating those two concepts in their writing. After talking about this evaluation of those two concepts, I want to relate it to the importance of having female Arabic writers writing about their objection and their rebelling to those two terms and how the definition of the good women in literature doesnt convey and show the true struggle of being a good woman in the Arab world and that such a term and the obligation of being a good woman and maintaining that status led to many women being excluded from society because their social life and their gender role and social class didnt allow them to be that good women that they needed to be in order to be accepted in their patriarchal society. This is why the fiction novels of Nawal Al Sadawi come handy. Her novels ( especially her book woman at point zero) has opened paths to new ways of reading about the good women and new women concept by articulating the struggle through controversial novels, discussing wider issues of social responsibility in her novels and the discourse that was used.. I want to argue that it was crucial that the Arab women took this discourse in their writing to show how they revolted/ rebelled against the idea of the good women and the new woman, and that if it wasnt for their writing the voice of struggle wouldnt have been heard or the true meaning or the good woman wouldnt have been talked about. To conclude that Arab womens writing only has one thing to offer: an af?rmation of oppression. When reading those novels the texts should be read for their experiences of location, cultural in?uence, the expression of national identity, the experience of sexuality, the performance of gender roles and the interrogation of and responses to colonial discourse and post-colonial theory. It is within these broad parameters that the most productive and enlightening negotiation can take place. The main question I want to ask is ( in the theoretical framework): through Nawal Saadawis novel ( the discourse she uses and her controversial rebellious way of writing), was it an affirmation of her rebelling against the concept of the good woman in Egypt? 2. Literature review ( 4 pages) three concepts to investigate using cases as illustrations. To give a general exposition of the chosen concepts. Be critical and thorough. I want you to review each concept. See if you can tie them together. 1. The concept of good women/ new women in the 19th century ( postcolonialism and during colonialism. ( how was it presented in the Arab world – in Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine). The good women here was the traditional women who maintained her culture, national identity 2. How the concept of the good woman/ new woman changed postcolonialism ( the Arab world – in Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine). the good women here were the women that had modernity and still maintained tradition – she would work and get an education but she still was expected to be subordinate to the state and her husband 3. Why was it important to have someone like Nawal El Saadawi rebel against those two terms and the importance of her discourse and rebellious radical attitude in her novels and loud voice against the patriarchal society. __________ Here are the references that you can use : ( I have also marked important things to look at in the attached documents) A.
