“My Brilliant Friend” book by Elena Ferrante

In the book “My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, a novel in which Ferrante depicts the development of a fragile female identity within a violent, patriarchal world. Ferrant’s novel narrates the story of a complex friendship between Elena and her best friend Lilia, whose identities are inseparable from one another during their adolescences growing up in the 1950’s Naples, and throughout their adult lives, in later installments. Both girls live in an impoverished neighborhood on the outskirts of naples, where violence is a part of everyday.
