Assessment 4 – Research Proposal and Presentation The research proposal assignment is designed to help students begin to think about ways in which quantitative research can be incorporated into their future masters research projects. For this assignment, students are encouraged to think about their future topic and devise a research strategy to address this topic. During the final weeks of class, students will present their research proposals. The purpose of this exercise is to give the students a feeling for what it is like to present their work at a conference where the audience tends to be critical of methodology. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to tell us about their research and the quantitative methodology they will use to do their data collection. They can then talk about anticipated road blocks to doing the research and how they will overcome these barriers. At the end of each presentation, the class will then brainstorm ideas for improving the methodology. Each presenter will use power point and give a shorter handout to each student which follows the presentation.
