For this assignment you need to find the full length movie The Cherokee Word for Water by filmmakers Charlie Soap and Tim Kelly its about 1 hour and 30 minutes its about the true story of the Bell Waterline Project, THE CHEROKEE WORD FOR WATER shares the struggle for, opposition to, and ultimate success of a rural Cherokee community to bring running water to their families by using the traditional concept of “gadugi “- working together to solve a problem. (it may be on YouTube or not or you may have to rent it) Please dont take this assignment if your not willing to find/rent and watch the movie entirely it is need in order to do paper! This assignment is for a MBA class on Organizational Change/Leadership. This assignment requires a 4 page paper on the movie The Cherokee Word for Water . In the movie Wilma distinguishes herself as a leader by calling upon “gadugi” and creating a new demand for service within members of the community. A major theme of the film was Wilma’s repeated attempts to identify, understand, and respond to individual and collective motivations for participating in or resisting change. In this two-part assignment, you are asked to address the following questions: Part 1 of the paper: Describe a current or previous change effort outlining the setting and its complexities. Analyze the individual and/or collective motivations of a group involved in the change. Discuss the leadership strategies employed as well as the outcome(s) of the change. Describe any resistance to change and how this resistance was responded to (or instances when it was ignored or not perceived). Include a discussion of the ultimate outcome. Part 2 of the paper: Conclude the paper with a series of questions you ask yourself, inspired by the film The Cherokee Word for Water. Use these reflective questions as prompts to rethink your personal change experiences. For example, you may want to ask how employing Wilma’s strategies may have influenced your own change effort. Or, compare the complexities of the Bell Waterline context or the different personalities (helpers/obstructionists) to your own change case. Note: I attached a copy of Browning and Goin’s analysis of the film that focuses on the leadership concepts. Feel free to draw from their analysis (dont use too much of it but you can use some of it) in the paper and to guide the drafting of your discussion prompts
