Those articles are in very very top economics journals – we do not need to have a sophisticated model and professional writing like them; however, I think they are good examples of how to write a short paper. What I am expecting is: a clear introduction and explanation of the economic question of yours, set up the math and solve it to get the correct math solution, then explain the math results in an intuitive way and wrap up the article. The word limits is 800-1200 words, i.e. you do not need to write a long article, & it is actually an art of conveying information within a limited number of words.
Re. the math models. It does not need to be sophisticated at all. Keep it simple and intuitive – so example 1 might be the best. Even though your model and solutions are only a few lines, as long as they are appropriate, for the sake of your argument, then it is a great model! I.e. Subaru might be performing better than Lamborghini while on country roads with potholes.
Please read the rubric and the examples before Tuesday’s class, and bring in any questions you may have. We will briefly talk about it.
