research question -what is nation branding and how is it connected to the soft power of a country? -Whats the state of Italian nation branding? -why expatriates play a role in the context of soft power? -do Italian expats in Berlin contribute to attract people to the country? I would like to start the thesis with an introduction of the concept of nation branding focusing on its connection to the soft power sphere of a country, afterwards the different factors contributing to nation branding are to be investigated and finally deepen the italian situation. After presenting the data collected from the international indexes and rankings I would like to use a SWAT analysis to summarize the Italian state of Nation branding I would like to answer the third RQ using the available litterature to define the expats of any country as direct (voluntary/involuntary) exporters of culture and national identity values and yet as direct influencer about their home country perception. The last RQ will be answer through an online survey directed to people in Berlin which have contact with Italian expats investigating about their perception .
