However, charities face similar issues of having to compete for a small number of talented people. For example, when a crisis arises, will that expert in dysentery for Save the Children or for Oxfam? Although of course the financial resources that might be devoted to talent management strategies are more constrained, the practices and experiences of not-for-profit organizations in the international management area are very similar to those of large private sector firms. What talent management issues would the IHRM director of an international charity have to deal with? What would be the key elements of the of the talent management strategy and what would employees need to do to make it happen? Structure An academic essay is not merely a summary of what has already been written on a subject. It is, instead, a presentation of your argument, supported by academic sources, on the specific question set. You must use an essay structure with an introduction, body and conclusions. The individual essay should best structured with: An introduction (approximately 250/300 words), which should in short indicate your topic-question, provide an overview of your key arguments and structure and highlight the conclusions you will arrive at. For example, if you had been asked a question on whether strong management can prevent fraudulent business practices, your opening sentence might look something like this: In this essay I am going to argue that fraudulent business practices happen because of, not despite, strong management. I am going to suggest that, in part, the pressure put upon employees by their managers can generate a culture where corners are cut and proper checks and balances are not carried out. I conclude that stronger management, therefore, may not be the solution to ending corporate fraud. A body (approximately 1900/2000 words), which should be the main focus of this assignment. This part should include a critical discussion of relevant academic arguments, counter arguments, theories and debates, and provide illustrations based on examples from the academic literature as well as reputable mainstream media. Generally, your body will be organized into three or four sections each devoted to a different but related argument, or counter-argument. Tell the reader in your Introduction what these sections are, and link these sections to your overall argument. Remind the reader at the start of each new section how the argument is progressing. Approved BBS Coursework Brief Template 2019/20 3 of 5 A conclusion (approximately 250/300 words), with your reflections on the limitations of the analysis along with a review of the main arguments before stating and justifying your final conclusions. All work needs to have a conclusion that summarises the arguments put forward in your essay and how these arguments have answered the question(s) set. Have conviction in your arguments. Avoid conclusions that end with it depends or this needs more research. Formatting Double space your text and use 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide margins. The text should be in a 12-point Times New Roman font and left-justified. Pages should be numbered, with the numbers appearing in the bottom right hand corner of the pages. Include your word count on the title page. Your assignment can be 10% longer or shorter than the 2500 word limit. Submissions that are more than 10% above or under than the word limit will lose marks. Referencing
