The questions require you to distill these complicated issues down to their fundamental elements, summarize them briefly and make connections among them. This means you have to practice economy in writing, striving to make the most efficient use of your limited space. You will have to synthesize, combine, catalogue, categorize, classify, analyze and summarize to provide a succinct review of the issues. I want you to refer to the readings. The substance is found in the readings. Be sure to cite your sources. Also, make sure you indicate when you are quoting from the readings. 1. Briefly discuss how consumers, diamond companies, manufacturers of electronic devices, mercenaries, rebel groups and corrupt politicians have been linked together in support of extremely violent conflicts in African countries. How have the illicit markets for diamonds and precious metals led to massive amounts of human misery and destruction in those countries? In your opinion, how effective would consumer boycotts be in reducing the violence associated with these markets? 2. Describe some of the harmful consequences of counterfeit products. What did the authors of the U.N. report mean when they referred to pharmaceutical counterfeiting as a form of mass manslaughter?
