Each student will select a topic from within the era under study (1870-2019), conduct appropriate research, and from such compose an analytical essay. This essay is not merely a recap of the topics standard history, but rather an analysis, so please choose your topic and plan your time wisely. Examples and specifics will be posted to Blackboard.
The analytical essay each student will write serves as a capstone for the course. I expect real answers to real questions, so please plan accordingly. The essay will be 4-6 pages, double-spaced, in Size 12 Times New Roman font, with a works cited page at the end. Each student will use a minimum of five sources, and include at least two primary sources. Cite sources whenever used (ideas and quotes) in a style you maintain throughout the essay. The essay is due the last day of class, as indicated in the syllabus.
*The Writing Center, located in Sullivan 306, is a great resource and I strongly recommend utilizing their services for assistance with writing as well as editing the essay prior to final submission!
