Global Warming

Technical Report on Global Warming

This research paper should present data (facts and figures) that describe the causes and effects of global warming.

See the Report Resource links page for some useful websites.

The report should be a minimum of 1000 words.
Use Arial or Calibri font, 12 pt. size, double spaced. Submit your paper through this assignment as a pdf file; it cannot be turned in on paper.
In the report you must include an introduction of the topic, a body which presents your data with an interpretation of your graphics, and lastly, a conclusion that you have drawn from your data.
You must include in the report a minimum of 3 charts or graphs that you use to support your conclusions. The graphics are in ADDITION to the 1000 words. Again, be sure to analyze the data included in these graphics in the body of the report. At least one of the graphs or charts must be created by you from data. The data must be included in the report.
You must cite 3 credible, recent (no more than 5 years old) scientific sources that have their conclusions supported by data. You may use additional sources, but all sources must be cited.
You must append a list of references at the end of the report using the format described below. Title this list “Bibliography.”
All Bibliography entries must include year, author, title, source. If the source is a web page, give the name of the organization that published, the title, the author and year (if listed), along with the complete URL to that page, along with the date you accessed the article. If the source is a published journal (even if you access it by internet), list the Journal name, Edition, and pages for the article.

Your paper must not be more than 20% similar to sources in the Vericite database. A green % is good.
There is an available rubric that allows you to see how each item is weighted. The total value of this report is equivalent to one major exam.
Citation format

Number each citation within the body of the paper, in the order cited. List the sources in the Bibliography in the numbered order, so the first paper cited is #1, etc.

Note: All sources must be cited, and all citations must be listed in the Bibliography.

Suggested organization for your paper

The Introduction:

Introduce the purpose of the report and a brief list of the topics to be covered in the body of the report.

The Body: (include your charts and graphics in this section to support your information)

It is important as you develop the body of your report to have some continuity to the information. The paper should flow easily from one paragraph to the next. Use your introduction to guide your progression through the paper.

In the body you should separate main ideas into at least 3 paragraphs:

Define what is meant by the term global warming.
Include a discussion of the data that supports global warming trends in the environment. At this point you may include the reasons given for the denial of global warming. Check out the references that are used to support the denial of global warming to see if they are scientifically credible. Analyze this perspective, and evaluate its reliability.
Give a focused description of one consequence of global warming, such as extreme weather events or coral bleaching.
The Conclusion:

In your conclusion, start with a concise summary of your research. Describe actions to slow the increase of global warming that have occurred at the national and international level and what steps you as an individual can take. You may state a conclusion as to whether or not, after analyzing the data, you agree that the data supports a global warming trend. If you do not believe that the data supports this, you must have credible, scientific data to support your conclusion.

A rubric is provided so that you know exactly how your paper will be scored.

The Technical Report is a requirement of the course and counts as 10% of your grade
