Explain the connection between the two sources–why do these two sources belong in a paper together?

How to structure Paper 2 (Summarize and Connect)Introductory paragraph:● Introduce both sources, including the author/speaker, title, and kind of source, such as a TED Talk or book chapter (if it’s a book chapter, you should include the title of the book as well as the “title of the chapter,” with appropriate formatting).● Explain the connection between the two sources–why do these two sources belong in a paper together? How do they intersect?● Note that the authors come from two different disciplines (Philosophy and Sociology, or Sociology and History), and say what that means to your comparison.● Provide an overview of the paper’s intentions and goals (to show how source A is connected to source B in that __________). By the end of the paper, what do you hope to accomplish? (What connection do you hope will be illuminated, and why?)Body paragraphs:● Once you know what your paper’s main idea is (what connection between the two sources you want to develop), then you will have to break that main idea down into sub-topics, and these sub-topics should be the main ideas of your body paragraphs. Each paragraph’s main idea should be expressed in a topic sentence.● There is no minimum number of body paragraphs; write as many as you need to fulfill the 3-page length requirement.● Prioritize an explanation of how the two sources are connected, and summarize only the parts of the sources that are related to that connection.● Do not summarize unnecessary information from either source.● Use a mix of summary and direct quotation to show how the sources are connected. Be specific.● You may discuss one source per paragraph, or you might want to discuss both sources in each paragraph. Either way, make sure each paragraph has a clear main idea articulated by a topic sentence. For example, here are two ways to organize the same information:1. Example #1Body Paragraph #1 Topic Sentence: Both Britney Cooper and Thomas Flynn acknowledge that time passes faster for some people, and more slowly for others. (summary and direct quotation to show examples for both)Body Paragraph #2 Topic Sentence: While Cooper makes the point about personalized time to emphasize the pace of social progress, Flynn is focused on issues of quality of life. (summary and direct quotation to show examples for both)2. Example #2Body Paragraph #1 Topic Sentence: Thomas Flynn makes the argument that time passes faster for some people than others, based on choices and attitudes they make about their priorities.(summary and direct quotation to show examples for Flynn only)Body Paragraph #2 Topic Sentence: Like Flynn, Britney Cooper also acknowledges that time is experienced differently by different people, but unlike Flynn, she shows its importance to the pace of social inclusion. (summary and direct quotation to show examples for Cooper only)Conclusion:● Revisit the main points of your analysis; state what the paper accomplished, and how.● Tell the reader what the whole of your conversation amounts to. What is the final result from all this analysis, and why does it matter? What does the intersection between the two sources reveal about time? Or about the world? (It’s okay for the conclusion to zoom out.)●
