Evolving Theories in Europe in the 18th Century (not written as a letter)

The Prompt: You read a number of sources during Week nine regarding new theories of the relationship between state and society. Thinking of them in chronological order, in what ways do these theories evolve over time? Knowing what you do about European history in this period, why do later theorists have different views? If you were an eighteenth-century European, which would you think was most reasonable? (To avoid I/me/you/us/we phrases, write it beginning: “An eighteenth-century European would find X’s theory most reasonable.” Feel free to choose a specific gender, age, and class for your hypothetical European).
