page paper, double spaced, font 12, one-inch margins, using APA or ASA citation style, reflecting on how the service learning experience connects to social theory. The paper must contain a title, an introduction, two or more body sections, and a conclusion. The paper is to take one theory (e.g., Risk Society) and apply it to a particular public issue (environment). You will be assessed on how thoroughly you have read the assigned materials, whether you understood and retained key concepts, and your ability to identify illustrative examples from the service learning experience that connect to the course readings. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on and connect the service learning activities with the objectives and content of the course. The grading rubric is based on Blooms Taxonomy to move from general categories of learning to specific learning. You will be graded on the degree of critical reflection on these dimensions, not on your personal opinions, per se. You are to demonstrate your understanding of course readings and activities and show how the service learning activities helped you understand the course material better. Consider how service learning has deepened your understanding of these materials. The content of the paper should include the service learning project summary, a synthesis of what you did and the intended outcomes the activities had for the community, how it connects to readings, & personal reflections on the experience. Consider responding to the following: Identify and describe a specific academic concept that you now understand better as a result of reflection on your community engagement experience. Apply the academic concept in the context of the experience. Analyze the academic material, including your prior understanding of it, in light of the experience and develop an enhanced understanding of it. Evaluate the adequacy of the material, and your prior understanding of it, and develop a strategy for improved action (e.g., what should be done differently and how?).
