The purpose of this assignment is to observe a classroom with emergent bilingual students (be it in an SEI, ESL, bilingual or other classroom) and connect that data with our course material. In doing so, you will gain insight into the implementation of English language policy in a real Massachusetts school, and you will be able to compare that with the educational theory to which youve been introduced. How do they line up? How do they differ? What ideas and beliefs are being privileged through the classroom practices you observed? What does it make you think about your own classroom in the future? The observation must take place in a Massachusetts K-12 public school and must be at least the length of one full class period including transitions.
