Design and Theoretical Models of Management

A Bureaucratic organizational design entails a form of management that utilizes a pyramidal command structure. In this management style, the authority is centered at the top with information flowing from the top down. Bureaucratic organizations possess several characteristics; clearly stated and written down rules and job responsibilities, a clear hierarchy of power which is concentrated within few high ranking administrators, formal appointments with bright officers’ accountability. Employment is based on skills and knowledge with a salaried pay-grade system with conventional micro-managing system among other characteristics (Singh, 2019). In 1905 Max Weber introduced a new theory known as Max Weber theory. Max Weber highlighted the following positive aspects in support to bureaucratic organization design; accountability and job security are present in this management structure. According to Ajagbe (2016) equality is an essential aspect of this structure design; therefore employees have equal chances to succeed since favoritism is heavily discouraged. According to Ogbonna (2003) the negative aspects associated with this management structure include: – Strict policies which slow down decision making and delayed communication. This results in reduced employee relations, increased conflicts and poor customer relations. – Complicated workloads and roles that impede productivity and innovation, decrease morale to its employees. -Less autonomy for employees characterized by penalties. My organization utilizes functional organization structure where all employees of similar specializations are grouped for faster communication and decision making. Matrix model best fits my organization; it provides the theoretical on dual authority and multi-disciplinary group with support from people such as Kenneth Knight who identified three matrix management models; secondment, coordination and overlay (Albers, Wohlgezogen & Zajac, 2016). Due to technological advancement in the new error, it is essential my organization put effort to measure the change process, provide adequate training and develop an appropriate communication strategy. Do you agree that before one establishes an innovative way to manage business, it is essential to first understand and learn from the old models?
