Social Work practice in health care settings challenges workers in unique ways. Certain settings can expose us to visuals, sounds, and smells that we would not normally encounter in other community-based practice settings. Social Work managers in hospitals and other health care settings are looking for practitioners who can assess their own strengths and anticipate what areas of medically-related practice we may find challenging and even distressing. In this reflection: 1. Describe yourself as a social work practitioner. This should include what approaches you favor using in practice (you should cite at least one source for each approach). What contributions to you believe you, as a social worker, can make in health care? 2. What motivates your interest in practicing as a social worker in health care? Is there a particular aspect of health care you hope to work in? 3. What areas of medically-related social work do you anticipate may be challenging and distressing for you. The reflection paper should not exceed 3 pages — this does not include the cover or reference pages. Each of the three prompts above should recieve equal attention in your paper.
