This assignment is to write a briefing note (explained below) on the following scenario and present 3 options of what can be done. The scenario is as follows: “You are a policy manager with the Health Canada (Strategic Policy Branch). Your ADM has asked you to develop a plan to decide whether there should be funding provided and under what circumstances for cosmetic dental devices (braces) for non-status Indigenous people living off-reserve. (Consider issues such as jurisdiction, costs, triage, public perception, implementation challenges and opportunities). ” You don’t have to write about all the issues in brackets above because I will probably add to it, I would say jurisdiction is the most important (federal/provincial), and then whatever else you can find on the other issues. I don’t have much knowledge on the topic aside from that people living on-reserve I think get funded dental devices through reserve funds, so I guess the point of contention is whether these funds should be used for off-reserve people as well? But there’s other factors I’m not aware of. I attached a different briefing note as an example, but the most important things to focus on are the “background” and “current situation” sections. The options don’t have to be as comprehensive and if you can’t think of 3 you can just do 2. I also attached the assignment instructions but you don’t have to follow all of those because I will likely modify it. I’ts mainly the background research that I need.
