Conduct and provide a written summary of a 15-20 minute interview with a local mental health professional. The person interviewed could be a psychologist, psychiatrist, licensed professional counselor, social worker, substance abuse counselor, or marriage & family counselor. This person is not to be a relative, friend, or coworker. Include the following: Name of individual interviewed, position, education/degrees, licenses/certifications, and pertinent information about the profession. The following are suggested areas for questions but is not an all-inclusive required list: How long have you worked in this profession? Can you share some reasons for you choosing this profession? What client population do you currently work with? What is your theoretical orientation? What types of treatments do you provide? What does the person like most about the work? Least? Do you recommend others to enter the profession? Are you currently experiencing any pressing business-related issues? (insurance, managed care, etc.) What do you wish someone had told you when you were an undergraduate? Add your own questions if you have them (only ask questions youd feel comfortable answering in their shoes!) This writing assignment should not be a transcript (he said or She said), but instead your own personal reflection about something that you have learned. Provide 2-3 pages double spaced reflection. Utilize APA as necessary.
