Students will be asked to choose one disorder and conduct a literature review on the disorder as well as to review the website of the American Psychiatric Association dedicated to the creation of the 5th Edition of the Diagnostic Manual. (http://www.dsm5.org/Pages/Default.aspx)In their paper students will present a clear description of the symptoms of this disorder, provide a historical development of our understanding of the disorder, review the etiology of the disorder, describe differential diagnosis (students may use brief examples to demonstrate their points), review available treatments for the disorder and the prognosis of the disorder. Students will also include information on the findings of any large epidemiological and treatment studies of their disorder. The paper should also include the changes that the DSM-V committee is considering implementing and their rationale for doing so.The paper should be 8-10 pages double spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman, with one inch margins on all sides. Students should use APA style for all citations and include a list of all the works cited. The paper should be based upon at least 6 sources.
