All final research papers are due at the latest by the end of the day on Wednesay 12/18. Please note that this is our last officially scheduled class day.
No deadline extensions or incompletes will be allowed. Early submissions are welcome. Requirements for this paper have been detailed on page two of the syllabus, in classroom discussions, in feedback on your proposals, in our library research training, and in the drafting process.
Remember that the paper should be 1200-2000 words (five to eight pages), and that it should cite and synthesize the findings and opinions of three to five outside sources with your own critical arguments. Research papers are expected to conform to MLA format as discussed in class and outlined in Rules for Writers.
“I intend to write my research paper on all the literary works that we have covered during the semester thus far. I would like to touch upon the controversial writings from authors such as Henry Miller and Allen Ginsberg regarding censorship. I also would like to touch on the not so controversial literary works from writers such as Walt Whitman, James Baldwin and John Kennedy Toole touching upon the idea of accepting yourself as well as accepting others no matter what their background is and where they stand in view of society. I would also like to approach the artistic expression of these literary greats in conjunction with their impact on society and writers who followed them all. There may be some topics that overlap for each set of authors and my intention is to generally cover what they wrote about, their stance on society and politics, and their impact on modern society.”
