Choose a museum to visit, this can be online or you can visit one near you, one in which you can find a work by any artist in Chapters 1 through 7. Be adventurous and chose a museum outside your own area. Look at several this is fun! I choose: Stela of Amenemhat and HemetDate: Middle Kingdom, early Dynasty 12 (about 19561877 BC) Artist: Egyptian; probably from Thebes, Egypt. Look through your museums site; then write up the following: 1. Name of museum – Art Institute of Chicago 2. Location of museum – Chicago Illinois 3. Tell a little about the museum, perhaps its buildings, any interesting history, etc. Do not just copy and paste this it must be your own writing. 4. Tell what they are currently featuring; what major show is on display. 5. Using your Analyzing Creative Art Worksheet for guidance, pick at least 5 pieces of art or architecture to discuss from your museum. Be sure that your analysis of your pieces of art or architecture includes significant use of basic technical vocabulary and concepts that you have learned from the readings and found defined in the Glossary in the textbook. Your analysis should not reflect only your personal feelings or reaction to the pieces or architecture. You should demonstrate that you understand what common elements and techniques are used by artists to create the desired effects in their works of art as well as how individual works are related to their larger intellectual and cultural contexts. 6. You should reference your work appropriately in APA format. 7. You need to write this as a formal report on your museum with a proper abstract, opening paragraph, body of the paper (5 art discussions) and a final conclusion paragraph. It needs to be double spaced and written in APA format. 8. The length is not specified. It should reflect your increasing understanding of the time period, the cultures, and the art language you will learn over the term. Being complete is vital to a good final score.
