The United States has a long history of social welfare programs. Some would argue that
entitlements in the U.S. are out of control and are making Americans lazy. However, what say
you when this welfare system is used to bail out multi-billion dollar companies? Corporate
welfare is often tolerated and encouraged. What makes us as Americans okay with corporate or tax
payer welfare and not that of the poor? How has these views changed throughout our history, and
where do we find ourselves current day in relation to entitlements for both corporate and the less
fortunate individual? This essay will take on these social issues and shed light on our tolerance of one and intolerance of the other.
