Honestly just need an intro written on how African American bodies and practises were policed at the turn of the 20th century, as demonstrated through the claims from WEB Du Bois and Francis Kellor. This is a comparative essay on the research which Davarian Baldwin conducts to present the claim from Du Bois’s essays, and Hazel Carby on Francis Kellors’s book “Southern Black Girls Moving North”. I am comparing both to see similar/different research methods.Baldwin critics with facts, while Carby critics Kellors bourgeois ideology more directly. Neither mention how trans women and men related to these ideologies from Du Bois orRough Thesis: Du Bois and Kellor both demonstrate the restrictions on African Americans created to appease the Anglo-Caucasian society, but it is Carby and Baldwin which present the lack of knowledge on how these practises affected the trans community at the turn of the 20th century.
