Essay #2 topic proposal (due 11/2) The Color Purple, by Alice Walker Essay #2 topic proposal: selection of text and proposed thesis For next week, I want you to take only the first step toward Essay 2, For this week’s assignment, you need only to select a work of literature that you want to write about. (We will call this work your primary text.) Then write a brief proposal about what your essay will be about. Your main job in Essay 2 will be to analyze the primary text you have selected, just as you analyzed two micro stories in Essay 1. (In Essay 1, the two micro stories you selected were your primary texts For Essay 2, your primary text(s) will be chosen from among any of the authors on our syllabus.) ASSIGNMENT: 1) Select and identify your primary text (or texts) that is, the work(s) that you will be writing about in your essay. 2) In 500 words or more, explain your choice. Why do you want to write about this author or text? What theme do you see at work in this text? How does the text go about exploring this theme? What possible thesis do you have in mind for your essay? The thesis is the crucial part of this assignment. The success of your essay will depend a great deal on the strength of your thesis. Although you may change your thesis as you proceed with the project, you should give it some serious thought even at this early stage.
