Reeve, Hackett Publishing Co., 2004 Question to be answered: Toward the end of Book 1 of the Republic, Socrates tells his companions that justice is the special virtue, or excellence, of the human soul, but he offers no compelling defence of his assertion. In your view, has he proven his claim by the end of Book 4, when the kallipolis is complete and the nature of justice, both in the city and the human soul, has been identified?
