Compare and contrast health promotion and health education. Discuss how Healthy People 2020 and the Affordable Care Act have influenced health promotion in public health.HERE IS A EXAMPLE OF WHAT A STUDENT DID:According to the American College Health Association (2020), health promotion is the process of allowing people to have elevated levels of control over and to improve their health. On the other hand, researchers from the American College Health Association (2020) also assert that health education is a field of study that makes conclusions from drawing from the biological, environmental, psychological, physical and medical sciences of humans. Health education is done an aim to promote health and prevent disease, disability, and premature death. The aim of educating is that through an education-driven system, voluntary behavior change activities will occur at a faster rate (Healthy People, 2020). Often health education is acknowledged as a branch of health promotion. For example, consider a demographic region is showing trends of increased weight within the last four years, as a result, the county increases the number of dieticians that are available in the area to increase health education. However, if most of them do not have insurance to cover it, then it is unlikely that they will use the services. This is where health promotion comes in. when the issue is acknowledged outside of the individual’s behaviors or accesses. Other times, both are considered interchangeable. For instance, in a clinical setting, when a person is being handed a pamphlet with information about their health topic of relevance, the practitioner is promoting both health and health education to such a patient. Moreover, examples of health promotion include promoting breastfeeding, child and family nutrition, SIDS prevention and education and injury prevention, to name a few. Furthermore, examples of health education include outcomes of diabetes, cancer, and other communicable diseases. At a glance, health promotion can be correlated with prevention and health education can be correlated with caring for health outcomes. Nonetheless, as noticed, both are associated with some level of wellness for the community and its respective members. According to Healthy People 2020 (2020)’s policy is a national effort that sets goals and objectives to improve the health and well-being of people in the United States. Furthermore, the Affordable Care Act was put in place to allow people who come from low-income households with the ability to be covered with an insurance plan at a free or lesser charge. Both acts have influenced health promotion in public health by giving US citizens access to care to either treat or prevent worse health outcomes (Healthy People, 2020). One program that falls under the Affordable Care Act includes the Children’s Health Insurance Plan which funds care for children who come from low-income families (Stateline, 2014). This is health promotion because this program is focused on reducing the life-threatening health outcomes of children by proving them with access to care. This doesn’t only reduce the nation’s child mortality rates, but also sets them up for a healthier grown-up life and decrease a child’s chance of falling prey to public health issues.References:American College Health Association (2020).
