The term paper is the most familiar and common student project. It is an essay argued on the basis of library research. You should begin with a clear and concise statement of a thesis and then develop and support your position with data and insights from scholarly research on the topic. It is very important to include the most recent writings on the topic. Be sure to also discuss arguments that may refute your thesis. Make use of the scholarly journal articles relevant to your question, not depending solely on books (and NOT internet sources). Become familiar not only with the literature on your topic but also the larger theoretical issues that frame it. Undergraduate papers should be 8-10 pages typed, double-spaced with 6-8 sources.
For the research project this semester, I would be interested in doing it on the disadvantages that emerging adults have who grew up in foster care and were constantly being moved from one home to another compared to emerging adults who grew up in a stable home.
Title of proposed project: Foster Care Youth Transitioning into Young Adults
Focus: My focus for this project is to find out whether or not theres a difference when it comes to emerging adulthood between children who grew up in foster care and between children who grew up in a stable home. Im curious as to whether or not the children who did grow up in foster care dont care about their future based off the fact that they may feel like they dont belong in society since they grew up without a family, which is really sad to think about because every child no matter what should have a good foundation to grow up in and have equal opportunities to create an amazing future for themselves. My focus is to see if changing homes every few months or every year or so without every getting adopted, or even with getting adopted at an age where you still remember being bounced from home to home, has an impact on their development and their time of emerging into adulthood. Emerging adulthood is a stressful time in someones life so Id like to focus on these children to see if it affected them in anyway like I think it probably does since they dont have a permanent stability in their lives to support them like everyone should have.
