Overview: For this short paper, you will complete a two-part activity. For the first part of the activity, you will identify a complementary or alternative medicine
(CAM) and briefly research it. For the second part, you will record and reflect on the information you gathered.
Prompt: After completing the Module Four readings, complete the following activity:
1) Choose a complementary or alternative medicine (CAM). (Keep in mind that several popular CAM services and techniques are covered in your text; you may
choose one of these, or another not covered in your text. Also, you may choose a CAM that could be applicable to your client/profile, but are not required to do
so.) Perform a brief search for articles, resources, websites, etc. on your chosen CAM. Collect appropriate overview information on your topic, and keep track of
your resources as appropriate.
2) Write a short essay overview of your chosen CAM, including the below topics:
A brief history of this CAM in the United States, including how popular it is, among whom, and where and when this CAM originated.
How is this CAM regarded within the modern (traditional) medical community?
What are some best practices for this CAM (ideally informed by a national organization or standards board)?
Lastly, what are some advantages and disadvantages of recommending this CAM for use by older adults?
