Purpose of this assignment:
In this paper, you will conduct a literature review that describes and aims to solve a contemporary problem related to masculinities and communication. This problem will serve as your topic. You will find 7-10 (preferably) recent, scholarly sources that discuss your topic in greater detail. You have accomplished this through your annotated bibliography assignment. These sources must be journal articles or scholarly books. I will correct this if it appears to be an issue in your annotated bibliography. You will then summarize and synthesize the information and arguments contained in your sources in order to provide a holistic and critical overview of your chosen problem and how it can be solved.
Requirements:
1. Your paper must be fully in APA style (including cover page and abstract), must be between 7 and 12 pages (not including references), and must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman (double-spaced).
2. You must utilize between 7 and 10 recent, scholarly sources that discuss your topic. These sources need to be from scholarly journals or academic books. They cannot be dissertations or theses. You may cite the course readings as sources, but I will ask that at least five of your sources come from outside the class.
4. You must have an introduction that grabs your readers attention, clearly states your thesis statement (consider stating it as a proposition of policy), and previews your main points. This should be done in one paragraph.
5. You then must have a rationale section that explains your relationship to the topic. Why did you choose this topic? How is it relevant to your and your classmates everyday life? Your rationale section should be done in no more than two paragraphs.
6. In the body of your paper (this should be roughly 5 or 6 pages), you must accomplish three things in the following order:
1. Main point 1: You must fully explain your chosen problem (citing your sources) as well as why something should be done about it.
2. Main point 2: You must demonstrate the importance of this problem. Why is this problem serious? Why is it urgent? Why should we try to solve this problem instead of others?
3. Main point 3: What is your plan for solving the problem? Is your plan easy to implement? Does it solve the problem without creating more problems?
7. You must have a conclusion that summarizes your main points, restates your thesis, explains how this research problem influenced your thinking, and ends strongly. Your conclusion should be one paragraph.
